Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.
Marie Curie
Why do we fear the unknown? Is it a survival instinct or is it a matter of comfort? Are we raised to fear what we don’t understand or is it more primal? One thing is certain, fearing the unknown prevents us from living our lives. It makes us stop. It makes us hesitate. Thinking about what may happen stops us from making progress and becoming who we are truly meant to be. We only have a short time on this earth and life is not meant to be lived in one place. As a matter of fact staying in one place is not living at all. There is so much to see and do in this world, why fear it? You have to take that fear and turn it around, learn from it.
The mind is powerful
It’s said that most of the things that we worry about never happen, the mind is a powerful thing and we often over think situations while at the same time imagining the worst possible outcomes. We then plan for the worst circumstances and think the worst of people and second guess their intentions.
We watch the news and scroll through social media, but keep in mind those companies make their money off of fear. The worst parts of humanity are often the most thrilling to watch and read about. The good things are thought of as boring and those stories don’t sell. People want the exciting things. But you know what, we also want the inspirational. Those stories sell as well and have far more impact than the negative ones ever will. This world is full of so much inspiration and good. In fact there is certainly more good in this world than bad we just have to ignore the negativity and see the beauty of our world. Now I’m not telling you to ignore the bad, it’s always good to be aware and to prepare but don’t let it hold you back.
Mindset is everything
Travel to those foreign countries, go to those remote places and do the things that make you uncomfortable. What is life if there is no risk. What do you want to see when you look back on your life? A life full of embarrassments, mistakes and failures is far better than a life full of what if’s, you simply don’t know until you try. Ignore that voice in your head that fills you with fear and leap outside that comfort zone. Yes you may fail and your reputation may be put on the line but whatever bad outcome you are imagining more than likely will never happen. I want to encourage you to change your thoughts. Instead of imagining the worst, imagine the best. If everything went absolutely perfect how would you want that to look?
What you think about most is what and who you will become. If you always imagine the bad things you may always experience the bad. If you imagine the best of times you will surly experience the best. You will go into situations with positivity and optimism and you will become the best version of yourself. If you imagine the worst you will become the worst version of you and your life will be full of fear, anger and anxiety. Live your life with optimism, hope and positivity. Do not let the fear of the unknown control your life, embrace it and live a life worth living. Venture out there and be in the moment. Have stories to tell your grandchildren. When you get to the end of the road be grateful that you’ve lived a life with no regrets. Make life a journey and embrace the unknown.
